Re: [HSS] 28 wooden wheel rims

This is the old hoary question particularly with '27-'29 Hudsons. Why on earth did they make such a complicated design of rim, when the Essex ones are so simple? They seem prone to cracking with age. I can get new ones made here for $400 each, but nobody has bothered to respond at this price. These would be identical to the original, but would not include the locking devices, so you would have to transplant those from your old rims or make new ones. As to wood wheels, these are no problem, as you say, it's the rims that get distorted, mainly through the wrong use of rims preaders making them go egg-shaped. We also have a specialist who re-spokes wooden wheels at the cost of $150 U.S. per wheel, makes an excellent job, but takes a while.
