Changing oil (1922)
Here's what the '22 owners manual says: 1.Drain oil from oil pan.
2.Remove the tappet cover plates and pour about one quart of clean
oil into each tappet compartment. Then replace drain plug.
(Illustration shows oil being poured between the valve springs.)
3.Crank motor for about 30 seconds, but do not let it run on its own
power. 4. Remove drain plug again and drain off all oil. Replace
drain plug. 5.Pour one quart of NEW CLEAN OIL into each tappet
compartment slowly. (Illustration showing oil being poured between
valve springs.) 6. Pour five quarts of oil through filler pipe,
making 7 quarts in all.
That's all there is to it. Personally, I drain out what will come out
and add 7 quarts of clean an get back on the road. Sort of
the "instant oil change" approach. Zeke
