Re: [HSS] Wheel Puller and Hubcaps
Sorry, I don't know of any other way than the "Armstrong" method. I doubt
if heat would make any difference, as the alloy is very thin, and would
dissipate the heat into the thread, though it may soften any build of hard
greas in the threads. so long a syou have the proper hub cap tool I don;t
thnkyou will do any damage. All the damage I have seen over the years has
been caused by use of hammers or blocks of wood on the faces. Regards.
Geoff.

Subject: [HSS] Wheel Puller and Hubcaps
Hello Geoff,
The wheel puller arrived today. I am very pleased with the workmanship and
quality of the tool. It looks like the sort of thing that could become a
family heirloom one day. That is if I am successful in persuading one or
more of my children to catch the antique car disease. And this tool
certainly seems superior to the device I used to remove the rear wheels from
my 1922 Oakland. It screwed on to the axle shart and then I beat on the end
of the tool with a 3lb. hammer. The wheel came of, but I was worried about
the axle and the tool.
Now I have a novice type question. Are there any suggestions for removing
the hubcaps without destroying them. I have an original hubcap wrench, but
if I twist very hard I can see the cap start to deforrm. I have thought
that applying heat from a small torch might work. What is the proper way?
Thanks
Bill Cobabe
