Martyn,

About the VCC rally early next year in Australia -
we locals think they're crazy!  There is about a 101% chance the weather
will be VERY hot and - at least while they're in Queensland and northern New
South Wales - quite humid.  Coming direct from the UK winter into our
summer will be a total shock and also bloody unpleasant!  I guess this is
not news to the participants and they'll have their reasons for the
timing.

Still, we don't schedule any of our own runs at
that time of year for the obvious reasons.  But as Noel Coward put it, "Mad
dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun".  Watching the English burn
in summer is a national sport here....

Cheers.......... Peter R.

Evo, I have had the same problems with my 1920 super six and
eventually surrendered to more volts. Not the right way I know but I had tried
new batteries, even a bank of two. I paid a shed load of money having the
dynastart overhauled but in anything less than tropical wether she would not
crank enough to start. I have now rigged up a simple way of putting two 6volt
batteries into series for the vranking but not effecting the rest of the
system and still charging at 6 volt. Shove 12 volts up it and she is glad to
start straight away! I have inspected the starter for damage earlier this year
having run with this for three years and find no noticable failings. If you
use open starpped batteris you can series up just enough volts say 8 or ten
but this compromising balanced charging a little. If anyone needs the set up I
will draw a diagram and post it on a the site.

Bets regards from wet
and windy UK

Martyn Hudson.

Whilst
writing if anyone in Oz is interested the VCC of GB are coming over in January
for two weeks for a rally of Veteran / Edwardian cars ( about 20 I believe). I
can not go but know there are some very interesting early cars travelling in
containers right now. If anyone wants the route and dates I can post.At 10:16

Does anyone know what the
compression pressure
readings for a 1924 Hudson should be? The numbers
I
got were from 65 to 73 pounds which seems high for
this engine.

I am working on a friends 1924 Coach and the starter
has a difficult
time turning the engine over. The
battery is new 750 amp, new cables,
tried 2 different
starter motors ( made sure they were
properly
grounded), and wired in a Ford 6V relay in place of
the
Hudson contact set up and no improvement.
Presently, the car has to be
towed to get started.
Any
ideas?
Evo
