Re: [HSS] 27 Hudson Wheel Restoration
Unless you numbered the spokes and holes of the brake drum and wheel felloe
and re-assembled in exactly the same positions it is impossible to get the
drum and wheel as concentric as it was when first assembled. The drum has
probably gone back on slightly eccentric, hence the binding. Have you
backed the brake shoes right back off the anchor pins and eccentric. Just to
give you an idea of the impossibility of getting the spokes back in their
original spot, if you have twelve pegs and twelve holes, the chances of
getting them back in their original spot are 479,001,600 to 1. I Kid you
not! You may be able to try shifting the drum around on the bolts to try
getting it concentric, or else take the whole assembly to a brake shop and
get the drum trued up.

Subject: [HSS] 27 Hudson Wheel Restoration
Help Please,
I am restoring the wheels on my '27 Hudson. I have:
1) Remmoved, cleaned and varnished the wood spokes
2) Bead blasted the wheels and hubs
3) Painted the wheel hubs
4) Assembled two of the three wheels with a lot of cursing. (Spoke
wheels!@!@!)
5) Had the brake shoes renewed.
6) Purposely left the mechanical lever disconnected from the brake
assembly.
7) Installed two rear wheels over the new brakes shoes.
Question: With the frame off of the garage floor and the two
restored wheels in place, I attempted to turn the brake drum
successfully but with some reistance. When I turn the drum by hand
the brake drum will grab in spots. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Rick.
