Re: [HSS] Starter Switch
Yes, the switch contacts can be renewed, but it takes a bit of fiddling.
The contact assembly is held on to the base plate with two screws. Loosen
off the starter connection and the clamp screws and remove the starter. I
re-made mine using strips cut from a copper water pipe, cut to the correct
width and shaped around to fit under the contact screws. The contacts it
on the insulating sleeve with some tension, so that when the pedal is
depressed the tapered contact sleeve comes in between the two contacts with
some pressure to maintain good conductivity. You could use strip brass, but
this is not quite as flexible as copper and may crack as you bed it. You
are much more fortunate than we are over here, with right hand drive, as we
have to convolute around the steering box to get the starter out and work on
the contacts. Good luck.
Geoff.

Subject: [HSS] Starter Switch
Hello. I have been working on my 1929 Hudson Sedan this fall. I
went to start it yesterday and the engine will not turn over. It
appears to have a problem with the starter switch, which is located
under the starter. If I push the starter rod side to side, it will
make contact. How does the rod make contact with the positive lead
and the starter lead? I can see a brass ring on the rod. Can it be
replaced?
Thanks for your help,
Rick
