Transmission and clutch oil

I have used 600 weight steam cyl. oil in my 1918

Super Six Transmission and rear end for the last 25

years with good results.

This is what the owners manual says to use.

I understand that it is about equal in viscosity as a

modern SAE 140 weight gear oil.

I bought the stuff in 5 gallon pails right from the

Chevron distributor in Seattle.

I have used a 50-50 mix of SAE 30 weight non-detergent

oil and kerosine as my manual says to use in the

Clutch with good results. I also use the Hudsonite

fluid that the HET club sells.

And I hear that modern automatic transmission fluid

works well also, even thought I have never tried it.
