29 Trunk Rack

Ever since I bought my '29 Town Sedan, I have wondered how the trunk rack works. On my car it is folded up out of the way and serves no useful purpose. Looking it over, I couldn't see how it could possibly lay flat without hitting the back of the body (longer than the Standard Sedan) or being trapped by the bumper.

Jack Smith told me I had the wrong brackets and sold me another longer set that has no hinge mechanism. The mount to the frame ooks the same, but the rest is completely different.

The part number of the short brackets on the car is 81695.

The part number of the ones Jack sold me is 83287.

Does anyone know if either of these are correct? I see no way to use either set. The long set have holes drilled & threaded into the tops so that a metal or wooden platform could be fabricated to mount a trunk. With no storage space at all, a trunk is really needed.

Anybody got any ideas? I can post pics if anybody would care to look at the brackets.
