water pump packings
What I plan to do is supply 6 pre-cut graphite impregnated rings of the
correct specification, plus a dollop of anti-sieze paste. Otherwise each of
you will have to buy a whole tub of this, which is completley uneconomic of
course. I'll pack the whole lot in a re-sealable plastic envelope and send
airmail. You will need to clean the shaft - easiest to rub with emery cloth
whilst the engine is running - undo the gland nuts and slide along the shaft
(caution -rear nut is l.h. thread), remove the entire old packing with a
sharp scriber or hook, insert the new packings with the ends staggered (3 in
each end), coating copiously with anti-sieze paste, and re-tighten. You
will then re-tighten as the engine warms up and the packings seat in on the
shaft. Don't over do it, you only need to tighten until the leaks stop.
