Yes, the charge rate is adjustable by the third brush. This is the one that

is accessible when you remove the armature cover, you can see it from the

top. It is spring loaded, and you only need to move it slightly in the

direction of rotation to advance the charge rate. Be careful that you don't

get against the insulated collar when you do, it tends to crumble if pushed

on. I use a small screwdriver and lever the assembly around.. Maximum

charge rate should not be over 18 amps, these old generators are not too

hap0py with high charge rate. As to the mainifold, I understand the

intake and hot box were painted, but the exhaust manifold was not.
