Brake Questions - 1929

Three questions have cropped up in my brake rebuild.

1. The manual I have is a little fuzzy on the 'direction' the assembly

view is for. What I call the 'spreader' (spreads the two shoes)has a

curved face and a flat face. Is the curved face always towards the

front of the vehicle?

2. There is an eccentric spreader for one shoe about 1/3 of the way

around the shoe. It sticks out the back of the plate aad has a nut

(for locking) and a flat (to hold it). I have some with a rivetted

face, and some with a stud on the end that pokes through the shoe and

retains the spiral wound spring. The manual shows the 'stud' type

front and rear. I think my car had the 'stud' type in the rear and

the 'rivet' type in the front. Is this correct?

3. The manual shows my rear brakes as being assembled 'vertically'

i.e. actuator at the top. My brakes are rotated about about 22 degrees

from this position. Is this correct, or is the back plate rivetted on

wrong?
