Re: [HSS] Engine Paint - Update & Prices

I have a really stupid question at this point - the engine
on my '30 Essex Roadster shows remnants of red paint. Is your green for these
older engines or the later ones' such as the Hornet. I would like to be as
original as possible. Soooooooo - what years - and Hudson and/or Essex is the
green appropriate for?  Thanks, Alex Jones

Subject: [HSS] Engine Paint - Update
& Prices

After about 15 different variations of ugly green it
appears that the
Hudson engine paint is dangerously close to
perfection.  I was able to
find a great paint sample today to add to
the mix under my valve
cover.  The engine was painted with the valve
cover off, so the top of
the cylinder head is green.  The gasket
surface is also green.  This
green has been shielded from the elements
for 76 years, and has been
preserved with a light coating of oil.
Wiping off the oil reveals a
color consistent with the rest of the engine,
just in better
condition.  So, I feel pretty comfortable with the
color match.  It
may not match your engine exactly, because there was
significant
variation in the color that Hudson used.  But, it is
darned close, and
it will be show-correct for the car.

PRICING
-

Aerosol Can     $14.95
Pint
Can        $26.00
Quart
Can       $43.00

If you order a pint or
quart can, please let me know if you intend to
spray the paint, in which
case I will include a small container of
reducer.  It is obviously
easiest to brush paint the engine if it is
in the car; I advise using a
foam brush to avoid brush marks.  If you
like, you can then spray on a
light coating to cover up any brush
marks in the obvious, easier-to-access
areas.  I am brush painting my
engine, and I have removed the valve
cover, exhaust and intake
manifolds, breather pipe, water outlet neck,
hood, radiator, and
grille shell.  All of that isn't necessary, but I
wanted to paint my
radiator and firewall anyway, and replace a bunch of
gaskets, so might
as well.
