Re: [HSS] 1929 Cooling system ??

I don't bother with anti-freeze myself, even though we do have frosty

weather here in winter. I run half a pint of soluble oil in the radiator

water which lubricates the pump glands and bushings. There are other

types of anti-corrosion potions which are available, and I would recommend

that you at least run this to stop rust build -up in the water jackets.

Check that it states on the label that it lubricates the water pump. Do a

reverse flush first, with the radiator hoses disconnected to preclude the

possiblility of gunge choking up the radiator core. One dis-advantage of

using anti-corrode mis or anti-freeze/anti-boil is that they will find the

smallest leak, and leave a green stain, followed by a white oxide powder.

Good luck,

Geoff.
