Six or Twelve
Hullo One and All,
Currently my 28 HSS has two six-volt batteries connected to make a total of six volts. Unfortunately the dynamo (generator) has stopped functioning and cannot be repaired locally. It has been suggested that I convert to an alternator and twelve volt system, though retaining the two six volt batteries connected to make twelve volts. The starter motor would run from one of the batteries and remain at six volts. What are your thoughts on this suggestion? Would it be easier to try and source an original generator? Please let me know. Incidentally, I enquired recently about the purpose of the parallel ridges inside the car's split rim and mentioned that I recalled some discussion on this matter a year or two ago. Thanks for the replies but I've since re-checked and it looks as if the original discussion was all of FIVE years ago. I cannot believe how quickly the time has gone - it seems only yesterday I was a mere boy with short trousers and a runny nose sitting alongside my old grandfather as we chugged along in his Rover. The car was so ancient even then I used to duck down, not to be seen - but I wish I had that car now or could ride in it with him just once more!!!! S-i-g-h. So much for reminiscing. I look forward to your replies.
Best Wishes, Anthony O'Brien
