Manifold Differences

I have two exhaust manifolds here with reinforcing ribs, and on one,

the ribs continue the entire length of the manifold. On the other,

they are cut down in the center where the heat riser is. I installed

the one with the continuous ribs on my car and they interfere with the

linkage for the heat riser. The manifold that came off the car was

the one with the ground-down ribs. Were there two different designs?
