Re: [HSS] 1929 Hudson/Essex Super Six oil pump assembly

Rod, the parts are in basically in the correct order of assembly. The round

piston with the protrusion is the pressure valve. The spring goes over the

protrusion, and the top of the spring fits in the recession in the top cap.

Note that it is vitally important to have the gasket shaped as shown, with

the cut-out for the relief hole. If the hole is covered by gasket you iwll

destroy your pressure gauge. The pump would actually work without the

pressure valve, but would not register on the gauge. What happens is: the

valve closes off the delivery port. On the delivery stroke of the plunger

the oil has to build up pressure against the top spring, and this pressure

is reflected in the gauge. As the pressure overcomes the tension of the

top spring, the valve lifts, and uncovers the delivery port. Good

luck,

Geoff.

Subject: [HSS] 1929 Hudson/Essex Super Six oil pump assembly

Hello,

I am new to this group and searched around for info on how to

properly

assemble a 1929 Hudson/Essex Super Six oil pump. I have created a web

page with picture of my pump and the two items I don't know how

to

install marked with a red box.

http://home.comcast.net/~rodbengineering/oil_pump.htm

Does anyone have a picture of how to properly install the parts

enclosed in red?

Thank you very much, Rod
