Hudson doings on the SS prototype aka 6-40
Hi folks, We thought it was about time for a brake job on the 16 6-40
(squealing and NOT Stopping) and started taking things apart. Bands are
now relined so we thought now was a good time to check rear end.
Pandora's box has been opened, not really. just figuring new modern
seals for the outer bearings in & out, one new bearing cone for outer
bearing too. We just opened pinion bearings and both cones are cracked!
No wonder there was so much play there. I think I have a line on them
so hopefully we'll be reassembling soon. The inner bearings and cones
are fine. Really amazing how they locked everything in and made it so
adjustable. Looks like they used crude oil for lube. Well back to cone
search, take it easy. Jerre
