Re: [HSS] Can You Identify My Block?
It is a side-valve Hudson block most likely. These were in two
configurations, first with a hole through the centre of the water jacket and
the carburettor mounted on the left hand side, then in 1923 they changed
over to a Stewart carburetoor which was mounted under an inlet manifold on
the right hand side. There are three different "F-head" blocks - the first
in early 1927 had the exhaust valves in the same position as the earlier
side-valve block. the second in late '27 and '28 models had the exhaust
valves shifted on cylinders 1,3,4,6, and then in 1929 there was an extra
hole in front and rear on the right hand side for lubrication mist to go up
to the top tappet cover. You can use a late-'27-'28 block on a '29, and
vice versa, but the early '27 won't trtanspose to any other model.
