1933 Essex

A very close friend of my wife's father lives near us in Colorado and while visiting today he started tellin me about some of the items in his large back yard, one of which he says is a 1933 Essex Terraplane frame, drivetrain and engine. I went back there without him a took a picture of which one I thought he had ment, however there is also sappose to be a 1917 3/4 ton frame as well.

Both have wooden spokes on the wheels, and appear to only have minor suface rust from sitting there since he last drove them in the 1940's. Can you help me ID these vehicles, and perhaps find someone whom can put them to good use? This is man is a very old biker, whom had many friends whom used his yard as a sort of dumping ground through the 60's and early seventies and he has quite a bit of what I would assume are rare items at this point.

Thanks for your time, Michael Bartholomew

Michael, I believe the Essex would have had steel spokes, however someone might have put wood-spoke wheels on it at some point. One way to I.D. the car would be to look closely on the frame for a serial number. It may occur on the passenger's side up near the front axle. I don't recall whether it is on the top or side. You may need to take a wire brush to the frame to see the number.

Also look on the rear axle, on the passenger's side, possibly on the top of the axle housing. Again, use the wire brush to get rid of rust.

Once you have the number you can post it here, and we can confirm whether it's a 1933 chassis.
