It is best to fill the pump with oil. It will eventually lift the oil
without priming, but may take some time. You must be extra careful that
if you have the pump off and indavertantly tip it up, that the bottom ball
does not fall into the space at the end of the main plunger. If the
plunger hits the ball it can break the whole assembly off.
