Ballarat swap meet

Hello all. Just returned from an interstate swap meet. Thought it may be of interest. In Australia there are only 2 huge swaps. Bendigo & Ballarat - both in Victoria. Im sure there are bigger swaps and more in the USA, but this is Aust.

 

I live in Adelaide about 500km away in South Australia, so its a long days drive to get to the Ballarat swap. A good cushion is reqd as the Hilux ute gives a hard ride. I called into a farm on the way to look at a 1938 Hudson 112. A large square hole was cut in the roof and the 2 rear doors were removed for rabbit shooting on the property.

 

I went on to Melbourne and picked up 2 motors and some NOS parts from a club member, then to the swap. I had booked a site, so this allowed me to camp on site. The swap was at the local Ballarat airport. I walked up & down the rows of sites looking for Hud parts. 8 hours on Friday and another 6 hours on Saturday. Parts are getting hard to
find. I saw some 112 hubcaps, a tail light and someone got a 48 g/box. My only success was a good hlight rim for a model O Hud, 3 cylinder sleeves and a new set of piston & rings for a 48 GM Holden. Some shave the head of the 3" piston to fit the Terraplanes. I hope you all do better than myself, at your swaps.

 

In 2 weeks Im off again. I won some 1930 Hud parts on Ebay for $225Aust. The text then said it was 1928 parts. Photos showed it was 1926. Just have to drive 1000kms to get there. Only one other bidder. If no one bids, parts often go to the rubbish dump or China as scrap metal. Anyway there's 3 motors, 2 gboxes, chassis, guards, cowl, diff, hopefully some elusive post pads, and parts scattered all over the farm. Should be an interesting treasure hunt. Better than Chickasa? time will tell. Regards, Barry
