Your crank gear should have two punch marks, as does the cam gear. You need

to check very closely for these and ascertain whether someone has butchered

them at some stage, or whether one of them is just filled up with gunk.

You need to set set the No.1 and 2 valves rocking, the cam gea at approx 2

o'clock and the crank at 6 o'clock, and you should have 18 pins between the

marks "As when measuring distance" as the manual says. That is, the pin

between the cam gear marks iz zero, and the one between the crank marks is

18. You then set the distributor to fire on No. 6 cylinder.
