It sounds like somebody has fiddled with the basic set-up. There are only
two pipes - one below the pump coming from the crankcase, and one above,
going to the oil pressure gauge. The oil is drawn from the sump, through the
pump and delivered internally to the pedestal, from whence it goes down
through the timing case, into the trough assembly, circulates through each
trough back to No. 6 where the remainder is flung against the side of the
crankcase and dribbles down the cut-out in the side of the rear trough and
hance back to the sump. Mains are fed by gutters in the crankcase directing
the oil to holes in the bearings. there should be nothing going to the top
tappet cover, these are oiled by the fillable resevoirs above each rocker.
The only filter is a gauze around the intake pipe. If you want I can take a
pic of my engine and email it to you.
