"Watson Stabilator" for a 1927 Hudson
Back again,
Progress continues...slowly. Anway, we are now trying to repair
two "Watson Stabilators". The center shaft in one is broken. I
thought it was made of cast aluminum, but now I'm not so sure.
Maybe, cast pot metal?
Description. The "Stabilator" is a reel looking device, with an
approx. 6" diameter with an internal strap system that attaches to
the front axle on either side of the car. I believe it was the
early shock absorber.
Questions:
1. What is the proper name?
2. How do I go about repairing the center shaft?
3. How do you replace the worn strapping material?
Thank you,
Rick.
