Welcome Ray & Valve Keeper questions

Ray great to hear that 29 caught your fancy, Welcome to Hudsonland.

While I was out and about in the 16 6-40 there arose such a clatter

from the valve train, and a misfire to boot. I came across #5 exhaust

valve spring keeper had "popped" out and spring was riding on tappet

with the valve flopping about. We found the keeper and after much

cajoling got it reinstalled only to have it "spit out" in a mile or

two. After much more indepth inspection, gee wiz it's wore out. Down to

local NAPA store and for some reason they were out of stock! I'm making

the little buggers now. They appear to be stamped out of about 12 gauge

sheet metal with a lite case hardening. they are oval with a tail and

a "keyhole" in it to clip on end of valve with tail turned up so the

spring seat holds it in. My son has gotten pretty good at getting them

installed. So while I wait for these I'll get boat ready and in lake.

That the News from Chicopee.
