I've had no experience with the 6/40, but I restored a '22 Essex Four, and

it had an alloy cam gear, which was not noisy at all. Also the later Hudsons

from 47-52 8 cyl. models all came out with alloy gears, which could be

retro-fitted to the earlier models. It would be a good idea to make these

replacements out of alloy instead of fibre.
