Oil Pump.
Attachments :
Here is an enlarged pic of the oil pump section
from the '29 Hudson parts list. The balls are numbered 261 and 271, and
act as one-way valves. On suction the bottom ball rises off it's
seat and allows the central chamber to fill with oil, whilst the top ball
is held down on it's seat by the top spring. On delivery stroke, the
bottom ball is held on it's seat by the pressure, and the top ball is forced up
off it's seat, and the oil is delivered to the top chamber and into the
pedestal. As you can see, if the ball got in the end of the main chamber,
it would be hit by the plunger, and this will cause either the pump to be
broken, or the pedestal to be smashed. Hope you can all download this
picture. If not email me direct.
