We had replaced the condenser with a "capacitor" 10 year previous.
Wally said "they don't go bad" Everything checked out OK with
condenser testers. I kept "crispying" the points and my mech/old
timer/buddy (Wally) kept insisting I'd mucked them up installing
them. I finally said "Humor me, please make me a new
capacitor/condenser" He's son does electronics. Long Story short It
worked and knock on my wooden spokes I haven't had any issues.
Thanks Jerre, I'm thinking I may have a spare around for the '29 someplace. Rather than testing it with a meter, It will be almost as fast to switch it out and see what happens. Of course we could always have two bad ones in a row . . .
A few years ago, my '51 Chevy truck started running very poorly. I tried a great many things and finally replaced the condenser out of frustration. Not only was it nearly new, I had thought the purpose was only to preserve the points. I did not anticipate the condenser would make any difference to the way it ran. I sure learned different.
