I hope someone's keeping an archive of all Geoff's
knowledge and wisdom - it would make a fabulous "lucky dip" of Super Six
information.

You live and learn after so many years another obvious answer I did not
know about.

Why use twisted wire & not split pins for the main bearing
studs?

Subject: Re: [HSS] 1928 Hudson ( Super six ) torque for the Main
Bearings and connecting rods- The problem is that you have align the castellations of the nuts
with the holes int the bolts and studs, so you have to have a starting
point. For the connecting rods, do up to 35 lbs, and then
tighten further until the holes and slots align. For the mains, do
to 60 lbs, and then tighten further to align. Do not back off the
nuts to get the holes right, and remember to use wire between the main
bearing studs, and twist together (not split pins).- Geoff.
