The engine mount bolts ae designed to allow the spring to compress if the

chassis is under extreme twisting stress. Early problems with the Super Six

and Essex Fours, with the left leg of the crankcase breaking off, so the

spring-mounted bolts were installed. The correct installation is to

install the spring on the bolt, and insert through the chassis mount and

crankcase leg from underneath. Install a washer and the castellated nut,

screw down until the slack is taken up and compress the spring by

tightening about one turn on the nut, then install a split pin to stop it

from undoing.
