Re: [HSS] 1927 Early F Head Engine Oil Pan Cleaning
To clean the oil pan out you need a length of No. 8 wire, with the end bent
over. Pour some kerosene in the sump, and scratch around with the wire,
through the filter hole, and the cut-out at the back. Slosh around and rinse
out, and repeat the process until the rinse comes out clean. You will need
to do this many times, and use quite a quantity of kerosen in the process!
You should be able to get gasket material (Klingerite), wide enough. Most
engineering retailers have it roools, and iwll cut you off what you neeed.
Don;t get too enthusiastic with tightening the sump bolts, as the threads in
crankcase can strip easily. 20lbs would be sufficient.
