Possibly the best compromise would be fitting a front axle from a '27-'28

Hudson. This would just bolt straight in, and you can transplant the '23

wheels on to the hub. You would then have to rig up rods from the cross

shafts. The 3-shoe Bendix brake would probably be quite a good balance

with the back brakes. Fitting disc brakes would also be an option, but as

you have noted, would look rather out of place, and these also have to have

a vacuum booster to rok efficiently. However, finding such an axle could

be an exercise in itself. I guess.
