Re: [HSS] Water circulation
It's hard top say what caused the crack. The
large holes are blocked off by a disc that is held in place by the head gasket,
I don't think they were installed like a welch plug. there is a seperate part
number for them in the parts catalog.

Subject: [HSS] Water circulation
. Most people don't know that the two large holes in the block areGeoff,
meant to be filled with flat round discs to stop the water circulating
through these casting holes, and make it flow through all the other small
holes in the block and head, thus giving much more even cooling around the
valves.
Geof.
When I overhauled my '20 some years
back we found a crack from one of the cylinder bores heading toward one of the
valve ports. Do you suppose the lack of these washers could have caused
overheating and the crack in my engine? Are we talking about a plug like
a frost plug that is forced into place or a drop in blank disc? I
suppose it is worth cracking it open to see what is or isn't in place.
How readily available are head gaskets?
Thanks,
Bob
