Re: [HSS] Looking for qualified mechanic for my Hudson in Southern
Hello Haw
I think you are going to find most of the expertise
on these cars right here on these pages. Remember that the last of the
Super Sixes were built 78 years ago so qualified mechanics with Hudson Super Six
experience are going to be pretty thin on the ground. Classic cars, for
most people today, consist of Mustangs and Camaros. There is tons of stuff
available for cars like the Ford Model A and T but you have a much rarer, and
better, car.

The Hudsons of that era were exceptionally rugged
and reliable and were designed, as were most cars of that era, so that owners
could perform routine maintenance. From my own point of view, much of the
pleasure from owning these cars comes from rebuilding and maintaining
them. Unlike modern era cars with solid state electronics, fuel injection,
automatic transmissions, etc your car is very straightforward and its systems
are easily understood with a little research and resources like Geoff Clark and
Alex Burr.

There is a very good manual, Super Six Service
Manual for Hudson Mechanics. I have seen originals on ebay and Alex Burr
has CD copies available. This manual lucidly explains the Delco electrical
system and the unique carburetors used on the early Hudsons. If you can
get a copy of this and read it I think you will begin to get comfortable with
the workings of your car.

You could also join some of the local clubs which
cater to the cars of the early 20s and earlier. The Horseless Carriage
Club would be a good one to start. You will meet many folks there who will
be expert at such things as adjusting crankshaft bearings, etc.

From the ebay photos, your car is one of the most
original I have ever seen, right down to the cardboard, cowl mounted coil.
It will not always be easy but it would be wonderful to maintain that
originality. I wish I lived closer so I could drool over it.

Good luck and never be afraid to ask
questions.
questions.

Subject: [HSS] Looking for qualified

mechanic for my Hudson in Southern California
Hi,
I am looking for a qualified mechanic to work on my recently
acquired
1921 Hudson Super-Six in Southern California. I am in the Anaheim
Hills area so it would be nice if I can find someone close by.
I
have called many shops within 20 miles around here who claim to
specialize
in vintage or classic cars and none of them ever worked on
a Hudson or
recognize my car.
Any
suggestions?
Thanks
Haw
