27 Gasket Question
Hi Geoff,
Thank you for the information on my 27 Head gasket. I asked Geoff a
question regarding a recent post regarding the head gaskets I
uploaded to "Files". Here was his response, which I think novices
like me would appreciate knowing:
Regarding the extra gasket I was told was a '27, Geoff wrote:
"Okay, the gasket is for a 1916 to 1926 Side Valve Super six."
Regarding the fitup of the washers I installed, Geoff wrote:
"The brass washers will be fine like they are, the head will locate
them..."
Regarding the small tear in the '27 head gasket, he wrote:
"...and you will have no problems with that slight tear in the
gasket, as it is a position where there is no danger of leakage of
water or compression. Give the gasket a good coat of aluminium
paint before you install it, and let it set so that it is semi-hard
before fitting. Tighten the head bolts to 50 lbs maximum, bring the
motor up to normal temp and then re-torque the head
nuts again. best wishes,
Geoff."
Thank you Geoff.
Question:
1) Is there any special aluminium paint that I use or just any can of
aluminium spraya paint will do?
2) What does the aluminium paint do for the gasket?
Thanks again,
Rick Gatling
