1923 Hudson question
I have come up with a puzzle an the last thing I need to do before
starting up my engine. When I assembled the steering column and the
concentric control tubes that go through it, the control tubes are 2-
1/2" too short. As far as I know the control tubes have never been
cut. I can easily shorten the column and machine a new keyway but
once cut there is no turning back. I pulled this stuff apart in 1967
or 68 so do not really know if I have the correct bits. I am working
with some 7 passenger phaeton parts and some 4 pass speedster stuff.
Does anyone know if the two cars used different steering column
lengths?
The steering box with shaft measures 13-1/2 inches and the column
about 40" long. Can anyone tell me if a column for a speedster should
be 40" or 37-1/2?
Thanks, Karl
