Yeee Haaaa!

This afternoon, after some 40 years of dreaming, procrastination,

collecting bits, moving the boxes and crates some 12 times and 11,000

miles, my 23 burst into life. I was worried because the motor was

almost too tight to handcrank but after setting timing and carburation

as best I could, the Delco starter-generator spun it over easily. A

couple of coughs and it suddenly purred smoothly. I have a couple of

water leaks to contend with but that is small stuff. Tomorrow I will

put fluid in the clutch, strap a park bench on to the frame, and take

it for a ride.

Thanks to those who helped. I did wind up cutting the steering column

down to suit the controls. I set up a pile of boxes to sit on and

tried to get a feel for the steering wheel, pedals, controls, etc and

figured that the 2-1/2 inches of extra column length could be

dispensed with.

I am a happy camper tonight.
