One more time - Fuel Sending Units

I was talking with my car buddies. I was lamenting the pains in

trying to get a fuel sending unit without haveing to pay $175 to get

the original redone. One of my buddies said I should just use the

VDO sending units that have a 10 -180 OHM range and then just switch

the leads on the back of the fuel gauge. Looking at the wiring

diagram, it does look like I could do that. Any thoughts?

Another interesting note on VDO lever type sending units states "if

the fuel gauge reads backwards, but accurate, the float arm has been

installed from left to right into the pivot. Reinstall from right

to left." I am going to try and install it "incorrectly" and see if

it will work with my gauge.

Also I found a handy list of Fuel Sending ohm ranges.
