Congratulations Paul, a real accomplishment! When you fill
up with new gas you most likely will get up to 10% ethanol. The ethanol will
loosen deposits in the gas tank and throughout the fuel system. I strongly
suggest an inline filter (or two) to keep the "gunk" out of your carb and its
small jets which are easily plugged. Again, good job. Alex

Road
Hudsons to the road, I am happy to announce that I can join in with the '29
Town Sedan at long last. As some of you may remember from past postings, this
car had had a lot of problems and has been more or less laid up for the last 7
years or so.
Geoff came up and put much right with the car but the carb
plugged up and the car became a tow job the next 3 times we tried to use it.
The fuel system was redone and the carb was still an issue. John Meadows
provided one of his superb bronze float bowls and the carb & bowl were
sent off to James Coats in AL for reworking.
James turned out to be a
thief and kept the carb. He said his own car ran better with my carb than with
his own.
John Meadows stepped in to help offering to set up an old
spare carb I had on the shelf with one of his float bowls. That unit was
installed Sunday.
We did have a bit of trouble. The car would not fire
at all and ultimately needed a shot of starting either to start. The gas has a
very heavy varnish smell and is old, old, old. After the initial start, the
car was run stationary an hour and a half. I wanted to make sure that it
really did want to run and would keep running!
After this warm up, we
went for a drive. To start, we went no further than I was willing to walk.
With no sign of trouble, we ventured farther afield and ended up driving all
over town. The car gave no trouble at all and restarted easily when shut
down.
This Hudson has never run so well. It will pull off smoothly in
top gear from a walking pace and was not the chore to drive it used to be. For
the first time ever, I enjoyed driving it. It does move a very leisurely pace,
much like a grand old dame ought to.
Thanks to Geoff, Lew & John
for your assistance in getting this project back on track. Now to burn up this
old gas and get some new in it. Maybe it will pick up more power with fresh
fuel.
