Re: {Disarmed} [HSS] Shuddering in Reverse

Hi Anthony, I would need to drive the car to be more accurate for you and
as you know I am based in Cheshire. Do you know what type of clutch is
used. It is often diagnosed as a transmission drive train fault even when
the fault lies in the clutch and is merely hidden by the drive train in
forward guise. Have someone look at the activity of the prop and the back
axle when it is doing it. If the axle is climbing forward then it is
likely to be tie rods linkages or springs, if the breaks are cable or rod
and the axles moves a lot then these could apply brake which in turn
exacerbates the problem. Less likely but possible is the brakes require
attention on the rear axle and are winding on in reverse ( broken spring
or full of crud), one last easy one tom check is the rpop joints, make
sure they are not goosed and are winding up in reverse!  lets see
    what other conclusions people bring.
    Hullo one and all,

I need some technical advice for my 1939 Humber Pullman.  I know
it's not a Hudson but - as I've found in the past with queries about my
Hudson Super Six - this is the most helpful and knowledgeable group I
know.  The problem with my Humber is as follows:  it shakes
like hell whenever reverse gear is engaged, especially as it takes up the
drive.  The shaking stops as soon as  the clutch pedal is fully
released, and there is no juddering in any of the forward gears.
The car has old-fashioned leaf springs, of course, and it's been
suggested to me that it has a bad case of TRAMPING.  Could this be
the reason for the juddering in reverse?  I'd be glad of any
    comments

    Regards

    Anthony O'Brien
