Shuddering in reverse

Thank you to everyone who suggested raesons why my Humber Pullman shuddered (also juddered) in reverse.  At least I now have a checklist of possible causes which can be worked through now the car is in for its annual roadworthiness test.  It's interesting, too, to note the geographical spread of the replies - Canada, New Zealand, Australia, USA, and even England!   It certainly shows what a global community we now live in, and that Hudson afficionados are found virtually everywhere.  Thank you again for all your help,
