Question on 29 Hudson F-head piston ring gap

I am getting ready to start putting this F-head back together. My

pistons vary between 3.4995 and 3.4997 so they are as close to 3.5 as

they could get. The cylinder sleeves (all six) were bored and honed to

match each piston. I have NOS piston rings. The end gap on the rings

is measuring about .022 for the compression rings and .32 for the oil

rings. Alex's documentation say they should be .006 - .008, but the

instructions on the NOS ring envelopes, say they should be .004 per

inch which would be .014, and the oil rings say they should never be

less than .010. What is the story here? Am I ok using these rings?

Also is there any specific way the rings need to be rotated? Ring gaps

every 120 degrees? 2forward, one back? 2 to one side one to the

other?

Any information on this would be appreciated.
