Oil Pressure guage - help me understand
Hey guys,
Can someone help? I would like to understand how the oil pressure
guage works.........be nice, now.
When I got the car, the guage was clearly fubar, but in the parts box
there was a vintage Victory oil guage. I replaced the older one with
the newer one, made the coupling changes, but I don't get a reading.
The new guage counts by 2's up to 10.
In the old days, there were 2 kinds of oil pressure guages, electric
or static. I remember because I had oil dripping from a bad
connection into my car from under the dash. These are clearly static,
but I'm not sure if there is an oil pump or something else back there
that provides the pressure.
So, should I be able to verify the guage is working by putting a
little compressed air on the back?
If it does register pressure, do I just work my way backwards through
the tubing to make sure there aren't any blockages? Or, it is
possible there is something else causing the problem. I'm not sure
what's inside at the other end of the tubing, so wanted to check with
someone that's been in there to see what might be causing it.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
