Well, you have to realize that Steve McQueen's britches rested on the front seat cushion! I mean...how many other Hudson cars can boast of that?
  • Just an estimate/range of what they expect it to sell for. It would have been nice if they presented more pictures and information about the car, as opposed to a few poorly composed pics and a history lesson.

I believe it was three years ago I saw this car in auction held at Palm's Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. I was seriously thinking about bidding on the car on following day of auction....However after I had the opportunity to look at overall interior/exterior condition (didn't get to start it) I lost interest and didn't return next day to see if it sold?

  • I recently tripled the price I would ask for my 51 Hornet after taking my Steve McQueen DVD's for a ride around town. I now say that Steve McQueen rode in my car.......I am sure this is valid and all very legal..... :D

Don't leave us hanging, let's hear the scoop on this car.

    Dave,

If this is the same car I saw, and I am quite sure it is, body wasn't straight; hood, trunk, doors didn't line up correctly, paint wasn't too good...Interior was all there but at least if I owned car required complete reupholstery, it was dark in garage and leaks could have been for cars parked earlier in same spot, however it did have oil and or transmission spots under center part of car. Rather then bid of Mc Queens car, I thought and remembered Ken Gates advise, be patient and wait for nice west coast dry desert car.

Going to Laughlin H.E.T. meet tomorrow and I know I'll see so many better Hudson's then Mc Queens.

Shouldn't only be one day, however Happy Veteran's Day.

  • Ray,

Thanks for the heads up on that car. I was suspicious of the dark photos and lack of info about the car's condition. Although this is a hobby, I'd rather have a nice car and do what I want, when I want, as opposed to making a major chore of it. You're better off to take the sage advice offered. When the right car comes along, you'll know. Happy Veteran's Day to you too.

  • The last time I saw the car, was at a Studebaker/Orphan Meet here in Memphis in 2001. It was then owned by Dr. Billmeier. Unless something's happened to it since then, it's one of the nicest Hudson's I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to see it sitting next to Robert Pickens' '52 Hornet, which is another of the best I've ever seen.

Nothing against Steve Mc Queen, in fact I loved his acting and movies, what I expressed was my own personal un-bias objective opinion about Hornet.

Maybe there is two of the same looking cars, the one I saw was indeed Steve Mc Queens; it had some pictures and other documentation inside car confirming Mc Queen owned. Really don't want to be negative about this car, and I have never seen R. Pickens '52 Hornet and I'm sure as you said is a very nice automobile. Being partial I have also owned many nice restored Hudsons (but also was informed by others that my cars were real nice) and to me the Mc Queen Hornet I saw or represented to be his required a lot of attention and wasn't worth my return visit to bid on car. After looking again I remember I commented to my friend wheels would have looked better with beauty rings. While living in Los Angeles I have visited Petersen Museum which has some of America's outstanding antique cars, this car isn't one of them and/or wasn't on floor when I took tour. Have to get ready to start short two hour drive to Laughlin H.E.T. meet where I'm sure I'll see some great Hudsons; have a good day and even a better "Happy Veteran's Day"
