re re re driving

This is most likely old hat for most. Since there's been little

responce to "Driving" let me inject a little of my own experience of

operating several pre 1930 hudsons over the last 20 years. First a

word about preparing your car for driving; "Brakes" I hear folks say

that one can't drive 2 or 4 wheel mechanical brakes cars at speed

with modern traffic; Nonsense. If adjusted properly and if the

correct soft woven shoe material is used along with proper braking

procedure ie- if you start to skid let up and reapply pressure as

needed, they stop quite well. Another falsehood is that 6volt: clean

all grounds well then coat them with grease or other protective

coating make shure electical items (starter etc.) are in good working

order. I use 50 candle power headlight bulbs and run them all night

with stock generator charging just fine. Good grounds or lack of will

make or break a 6 volt system. Make shure your spokes are tight, if

not soak, shim and seal them. Wood spoke wheels are quite safe at

highway speeds if in proper shape. When driving do not be afriad to

use quadrant and dash controls(a must for good driving) ie adjust

spark advance for high speed.Slightly retard for hills, power, and to

reduce ping/knock. Lean mixture at steady long high speed runs on

flat roads/ richer for low speed and hills and city traffic. too lean

in traffic will cause overheating, be shure to remove the two block

water resistors washers for hot weather and replace in winter if you

live in extreme conditions- this will keep engine cool in summer and

warm in winter.a misconception is that these help in spreading

circlation throughout engine to keep engine cool:not so!see hudson

service manual for overheating woes. I am starting to see double so

all for now ---Mike
