Eccentric Renew for my 27 Hudson
Hi again,
Well today, I pulled off the timing chain, took out the distributor and
managed to remove the auxillary water pump shaft and water pump. The
real fun came when I tried to remove the impeller off of the shaft. I
had to clean and then sand off some of the gunk built up on the shaft
and then had to take a torch and heat up the impeller before it would
budge and come off. (Yes, I took out the pin from the impeller
yesterday. Was that ever a chore.)
I removed the impeller today and I will remove the remainder of the
waterpump tomorrow. I am doing this because the eccentric plate has a
few chunks broken out.
I thought I would make up a new plate out of 1/4" steel (including the
proper cap screw holes and then weld it to the existing eccentric plate.
Questions:
1) Does anyone see a problem with welding a new 1/4" steel plate to the
existing eccentric plate? (As an example, would the extra 1/4"
thickness cause a problem...and or would making the plate out of steel
pose a future problem?)
2) I was told to use 3/16" Garlock on the water pump compression
fittings. Ebay had two different types of 3/16" Garlock, one is
Garlock 1298 and the other is 1200 PBI. Does anyone know which of the
two I should use? I am leaning towards Garlock 1298.
Thank you for your assistance.
