Lesson learned the HARD way

Hey fellas-

Pulled the engine out of the '28 the other day... got it on the engine

stand, and when maneuvering it around, the thing was so top heavy that

it fell over on its side! I guess that teaches me - 3 wheeled engine

stands just weren't made for a big super six!

So, I made a mess out of the crank case. I've posted some shots in the

photos section, titled "Damaged Crankcase". As you can see, it's right

on the right front mount. I've been told it can be welded, but I have

no idea if it's better to do that, or just look for another casting.

I'd like to try to find one close enough to me that I could pick it

up, but I'm not too sure if I can be that fortunate. I live in the

Detroit area. Anybody have any suggestions?

By the way, my engine is #529844 - one with the insert style bearings.

I was told that those were somewhat problematic.(?) Should I be

looking for another one of the same type, or babbit style?
