Continued help troubleshooting 29 Hudson

Ok, I am still haveing the same issue with my 29. At high RPMs my

29 starts missing badly. In 3rd gear I can go 42mph and still run

smoothly. Between 42 and 45, my engine starts missing badly and I

cannot go over 45.

1. The engine is timed correctly and advance or retarding the spark

does not help.

2. It has a new timing chain installed. - Question, should there be

any rotational movement in the shaft? Should there be any end play?

3. The engine has new sparkplugs, new wires, new rotor, new cap.

4. The carb does not leak at all, has has been rebuilt several

times.

Questions:

Should I check and see if the distributor needs to be rebuilt? I

have about 1/8 inch rotational movement of the shaft. Should I

tighten the chain until there is no play?

Since it happens at the same RPM no matter what gear, I would think

it would be one of two things:

1. At that RPM, my gas is somehow constrained and the car goes lean.

2. My distributer is worn and goes out of time at that RPM.

Thoughts?
