Re: Loyd shock absorbers and other stuff
Hi Gang
Well I am safely home from a 2040 mile road trip to
Evo Coelhos to pick up a 23 speedster parts car. A long way on the
interstates and other roads when you are 46 feet long but all was
uneventful. Thanks to Evo, Dave Kiester who let me use his spare room both
going and coming, and Steve Evans for accompanying me on the trip. Now I
have no excuse for not finishing this project.

Anyway, this car has Loyd shock absorbers very
similar to the Westinghouse and Gauss (sp?) types I have heard of on other early
Hudsons. These appear to be purely hydraulic as there are no air
fittings in evidence. They are manufactured by Loyd Manufacturing of
Oakland California. Patent pending so I cannot search the patent.
Google comes up with nothing relevant. Has anyone come up with any
information on these or do they have them? These are a purely bolt on
modification and configuration could be returned to original very simply but
they look so cool I am tempted to use them if they are conceptually and
/or functionally any good.

Another unique thing: The grease nipples all
have a very coarse thread on the outside diameter just downstream of the spring
loaded check ball. A couple of these still have a nickle plated cover or
sleeve which screws over the nipple when not being lubed. The cover says
DOT. These are different from any grease or lube fitting I have ever seen
and I am curious. My 23 has wicked oil cups which I believe were from the
factory. Any experience with these wierd threaded fittings?
