Question about Oil and Ammeter gauges for 1917 Hudson - Help me out
I have a question that I wanted to put out to the group. Frank (one
of our group members) has been providing me some very enlightning
pictures of his dash and engine so I could see what I am missing. I
believe my speedometer is wrong and so are the gauges from the
original. Which got me wondering if Hudson used the same gauges on
all their cars back in that era. Frank also provided the details
about the oil gauge and the ammeter. Here are the details:
Ammeter: made by West Electrical Instruments Co. Across the top of
face and bottom has patent applied for and model No. 354. There is
a larger "AMPERES" on gauge.
Oil gauge: has words "OIL" on face as well as an indian head
surrounded by "National Gauge and Eqpt Co. LaCrosse, Wis. all within
a circle in the middle.
BTW thanks a ton, Frank, for the great information!!
What I am wondering is whether all the other '17s have the same
gauges. I have been able to find the speedometer and will be getting
it restored, but the oil and ammeter are another issue. If Hudson
used different gauges then I might be able to find others. If I have
to find the specific ones above I might be looking for a while (or
sneak into Franks garage. : )
Update on my deployment: I leave in two weeks for Afghanistan. I
will be in Gardez in the province of Ghazni. We are where all the
action is taking place. I wont be out in the field rather I will have
a staff job within the base. I should still have the ability to post
so I should be able to check in every now and then.
